Budgies
Home
**NOTE**
Although we no longer raise or sell Budgies here at Bird Heaven Aviaries, we decided to keep this page up as a
reference page for those who are looking to share their lives with these spunky little interactive birds.
Budgies have been kept for decades as companion birds & are one of, if not the
most popular bird kept as a companion. It's easy to see why millions of people
worldwide have fallen in love with these little charmers. Their spunky
personalities are just as bright as their flashy feather colors. Along with the normal
green color, which is the color of most of the wild budgies, they also come in
other colors, such as the Gorgeous Lutino ( Bright Yellow ), Albino ( all white ),
Stunning Cobalt blue, Greys and my personal favorite, Violet. Here at Bird
Heaven Aviaries we bred the English Budgies, which are a lot larger than the
regular Parakeets. We've found English Budgies to be A LOT more docile than
the regular parakeets. Regular Parakeets tend to be alot more bossy and prone to
delivering some nasty little bites. That's just a rule in general & I'm sure there are
exceptions to this rule.
Handfed Budgies make fantastic Pets and are an ideal start for someone
who is looking to get into birds. Their docile nature makes them ideal for
parents who are wanting a pet bird for a younger child. Male Budgies do
become quite prolific talkers however you really do need to work this them
& talk with them constantly. You wont be able to hear them at first but
over time, you will be able to understand what they're saying a whole lot
more. Budgies do have a little soft voice & they wont have the clarity of
the larger birds like African Greys or Amazon. Some Budgies do have very
large vocabularies.

Budgies are very interactive birds so a large cage is necessary. They love
toys as well so be sure to provide them with plenty of toys of different
shapes, size & texture. It's also important to remember that no matter how
large your birds cage is that they still need plenty of time out of their cage.
So it's important to have  playgym or something for them to enjoy while
they're out. Time out of their cage is a great time for them to spend with
you & bond.  Just remember that you do need to supervise them when
they're out of their cage as more often than not they will get into mischief.
If they don't find Mischief, mishchief will find them.
Budgies love to eat. They enjoy a whole variety of foods and it's
important to feed them a variety of fresh & cooked foods and
seeds & pellets. Just remember not to constantly feed them seed
all day as it's very easy for these birds to become seed junkies.
An all seed diet is dangerous for your birds health and can cause
problems over time such as fatty liver disease. We fed all our
breeder Budgie the foods we have on our
Recipe Page . Along
with that we also fed them Spinach, Romaine Lettuce, Red Leaf
Lettuce. Mustard & Collard Greens, beet greens as well as some
hard boiled eggs once or twice a week. Budgies also love to share
our food with us so don't be suprised to find your budgie helping
you eat whatever food you have on your plate. Just remember
that Rhubarb, Chocolate, Avacado & Caffeine are absolute NO
NO's for your bird.
